Sep. 14th, 2009 07:24 pm Fall in maine is so beautiful.

Man it's dusty in here *grin*. I really need to post things when I actually think of them and not never or a bazillion years later as I do now.

I'm trying this DVD swap site and I'm not sure I like it. First one of the movies I wanted to list doesn't have a UPC code on it (yes it's a perfectly legal copy they just didn't imprint anything with the UPC code) so therefore it can't be posted and second there just isn't a lot of things I want available. Oh well, it's not like I'm in a hurry to see anything in particular. I will however purchase the new Star Trek movie as soon as it is available because I am a nerd (I'm okay with that). I've actually already pre-ordered it at Amazon.  Other things I may wait for the sales around Christmas (if not ask for them as gifts). I do want Dollhouse Season 1 because I want to see the extra epsiode that never aired. I think I would like the Fringe so at some point I may try that. It might be good to rent the first disk on Netflix though first...just in case!

Books on my bed to read (next to the pile of work I need to draft check) are The Master by Jean Johnson, Guards of Haven by Simon R Green and an anthology called Metatroplis. The usual becca assortment of randomness.  I think The Master iI'll read next because it's a romance so I get a guarranteed happy ending and sometimes I just like that. I may not actually get to read it until this weekend though. I'm working on Phase 2 of a project and the 30% set of drawings needs to be put together to be checked. I haven't quite managed to make all the drawings yet and I need to by Thursday. If only things wouldn't change everytime I go into the office!

I better get to checking those drawings...

Jan. 26th, 2009 10:27 pm It's been that long!?

Oh dear. I just saw that my last journal entry was the end of October. oops! I was waiting because I wanted to post pics of my incredibly cute new car (Name: Fera, Make & Model: Toyota Yaris, Color: Red, Cuteness: 15 on a 10 point scale *grin*).  I'm pretty sure if I feed it right it will grow up to be a fire engine (this would be much funnier if you could actually see how small it is).

Random updates: I did not "win" NaNoWriMo, meaning I didn't get 50K words written. I did, however, finish my story (mostly) at 36K and [info]drakescott says that it does not suck as bad as I thought it did. Of course I thought it was cat box lining bad so maybe he was bound to think it was better than that.

I did end up getting a laptop with Vista. Vista is not quite as annoying as I thought it would be, but the touch pad mouse is driving me crazy. It thinks it knows what I want to double click on and decides randomly to do so. Grrr. I tried to change the settings but there don't seem to be any for that so I'm not quite sure why it tries to be so "helpful".

I really need to get to bed. My bed times have been strangely getting later and it makes it harder to be my cheerful self at work when all i want to do is crawl back into bed. I would think I would be in hibernation mode because it's been so %*$^& freezing, but some how I'm not and there's always one more thing to do before bed. *yawn*

Oct. 21st, 2008 07:34 pm Turning to the dark side...

of the pillow. You thought I was going to talk about something else I bet. *grin*

Anyway, it's raining tonight so I don't have to worry the very bright moon will decide to wake me up at 2am. It made me smile when I thought of the whole dark side thing but then again it was 2am. The other thing I seem to do at that time (besides you know actually sleeping) is figure out Stargate time lines and how I can make everything make sense, I'm not sure I've succeeded 100% I think I need to go back and watch some episodes. Then again what I really need to do is finish season 10. I've stalled out at that point (except I cheated and watched Continuum).

Other news is (insert drum roll) I've signed up for NaNoWriMo this year! I'm nervous but I hope to be able to pull it off some how. I have surgery in a couple weeks but its pretty minor (to remove nasty sun damaged spots) so hopefully it wont keep me from the computer screen. I'm trying to decide between an idea or two that I don't know how long it will take to tell the story or go for something fairly easy for my first time and write some sort of main stream romance. I'm hoping to write 2000 words a day. Yikes!

Sep. 28th, 2008 01:08 pm rain, rain, go away

Raining. Again. (still?) The hurricane decided to go to Canada instead so no worries on that (though lots and lots of rain).

So what's better than a whole shelf of to-be-read books? A dozen or so that I actually want to read. Not that I don't have some awesome books on the to-be-read shelf, but I was craving certain kinds of books. Not holiday themed that's for sure (and somehow I've have a bunch on the shelf which means I may have forgotten to bring them to Wendell last year for xmas).  It's still too notWinter and notHoliday for those. Plus a bunch of the others are too serious books. They are going to be wonderful for when I want to read them, but I need something just a bit lighter and fluffier. So I found a new (well, new to me) author of scifi romances that I liked (Linnea Sinclair) and just bought the rest of the books she had written. The nice thing is that they are real scifi with some romance as opposed to fluffy silly romance that just happens to be set on another planet. I don't really like those ones. Not that I'm against romance novels.  It's just that a really bad plot with vikings and some silly heroine is just as bad if the viking is an alien from the fourth planet of Alpha Centari. So anyway I've read four of Linnea Sinclair's books in the past two weeks and I have a couple left for this weekend or I may save those two for next weekend as its already halfway through Sunday. I bought a couple other books at the same time based on recommendations on Amazon. I think they are more serious scifi though so I'll still be on the look out for good scifi with romance books.

I have to go the dermatologist Thursday. I'm worried they will have to remove chunks of skin for biopsies. I hate having fair skin. Hopefully though all will be well and it will just cost and arm and leg. (sorry, my odd sense of humor)

Oh wait. One more thing. Blood Ties spoiled me by having such amazing chemistry between its three leads. I couldn't get into True Blood and I really wanted to. I'll probably try to watch it again when its out on DVD just in case I'm in some sort of weird non-vampire mood right now. (no I don't believe that...maybe I'm a pod person?)

Aug. 9th, 2008 08:06 am It's actually sunny today!!!

After way too many rainy days it's absolutely beautiful outside. I'm on my way to camp today again. I'm thinking I may blow off the work dinner this evening. Free food is great, but I realized I see those people All the Time! I don't see my cousins nearly that much.

Hi [info]drakescott at his camp (well actually not his but it's easier to call it that). Give a lake moose zombie a hug for me *grin*  ... and read your horoscope http://www.freewillastrology.com/horoscopes/aries.html  (the week of August 7th one) The imagery is wonderful (and I'm sure you will be thinking the same thing I was when I read it). I hope you are having that good a time at camp!  Plus I think you left before my horrrible car saga at the end of last week. Zenora is all better now and has a current inspection sticker (Yay!) The tiny rust problem that she had was much larger than expected (yikes!) Bondo and spray paint fumes make me dizzy, but its all fixed and the nice mechanic did it all in one day - because you know it did need a new windshield and brakes and...you get the picture.

Wash is done! Time to throw it in the dryer and zoom to camp. [info]jacquesjadore (AKA Suse) has more HEX to show me!

Jul. 15th, 2008 07:24 pm random, random stuff

I've been very productive this week and it's only Tuesday! The Line Swap project I was working on got sent out yesterday IFC (issued for construction). The work won't be done until fall when electricity usage is not at maximum, but I was proud of all the work I did on the project (all 473 drawings of it). I'm looking forward to starting another project from scratch in the next few weeks but for now I'm helping one of engineers wire the stuff he has to get done. It's work/math geeky of me but I like wiring.

Yarmouth Clam Festival is this weekend!
http://www.clamfestival.com/home.php
I probably will miss it again because it's another family weekend at the lake, but I might try to walk around Friday at some point. It's possible especially if a bunch of us go from work.

I'm trying to decide about a new laptop. I've heard such bad things about Vista that I'm not sure I want that. I could get a Mac but my sister had a really bad experience with hers so...who knows. I don't really need it (though I am tired of waiting for my current computer to load stuff) until fall when a class I want to take is being offered online. Power Systems Engineering - doesn't that sound fun ;o)

A guy at work today from one of the other offices sounded exactly like General Landry(Beau Bridges) from Stargate. No really I haven't been watching too much of it, his voice and how he said things was the same. Needless to say I've started season 9 (and I want to slow down because I'm getting near the end!)

Jul. 4th, 2008 08:24 am Happy 4th of July!

I finally got the books I ordered in! Better late than never!! Just in time for long weekend beach reading. I got the new TH, new LKH and two books that I had heard good things about. The first is a graphic novel Fray which is set in a futuristic Buffyverse and the other is a compilation of books by Charles Stross On Her Majesty's Occult Service I love trying new books and that one sounded fun (occult spy thriller...what's not to like?).

I'm off to camp now. Should be a smallish crowd there. As far as I know Nana, Aunt Jean, Susan, cousin Jean, Leigh, Kate, Emma, Michelle (my sister), some random friends of my sister, and another little girl Emma's age who will also be celebrating her 2nd birthday wiill all be there. Plus there could be others I don't know about...camp is like that. They don't call it Camp Confusion for nothing *grin*.

I was going to go with ditzy for my mood (packing, cleaning, more packing, did I bring the books?!) but the little star looked a bit unhappy so i had to change it. Enjoy your 4th!

Jun. 24th, 2008 08:11 pm woot!

Good stuff!

Got a promotion at work!

Started 7th season of Stargate SG-1 (I missed Daniel).

Cousins came to visit two weekends in a row. They all recognized the incredible cuteness of my apartment.

Had an adorable three year old say "scuze me" to me as she barrelled down the aisle at the super market. Reminded me of my cousin Emma (she's two) who loves saying hi to me (okay she says hi to everyone but she knows my name and becca is not the easiest of names)

Almost time for camp (family, lake, fun!)

New Tanya Huff hardcover that I should get my grubby little paws on tomorrow!

May. 27th, 2008 03:48 pm ugh.

I was sick all yesterday and I only lasted half day at work today. I hate being sick (it's the feeling crappy and the ew factor). It might have been something I ate, but I haven't the faintest clue.  Of course it meant I really had nothing else to do yesterday other than sleep and watch SG-1, so not all bad *grin*. Luckily things weren't as crazy at work as I thought so I didn't feel as guilty leaving early today. There's drafting still to do for the small project I'm working on, but not alot. Add in the printing though of like 500 drawings and that takes time. The other big project that the drafters were working on is farther along than the Engineer thought (mostly because the two drafters working on it came in over the long weekend). That just leaves the two large projects were we just got field markups, but I think I will have help on those so phew! I really needed to come home and crash. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be back to full becca mode (and eating sold food again).

May. 23rd, 2008 07:45 pm Poetry Swap

For a poetry class a few years ago one of the assignment options was to write a poem using the words: talk, feather, orgasmatron, stickler, drainpipe, blunder, oven, calculate, neon, drink, etc., and oak tree. My result ended up being one of my favorites. It's terribly silly...

We Interrupt this Program…

Aliens are attacking!

Come to pillage and destroy,

drink down our human souls,

and to kill the human race!

Can’t we talk them out of it?

Call a special meeting,

maybe stop a bit and think,

to calculate what’s best.

No time for what you’re thinking!

They’re on our very doorstep

down the drainpipe we should blunder

and past the oak tree to escape!

Can’t we call somebody?

Some mighty stickler general,

to unite army, navy, and etc.

and repel these pesky things.

Neon blobs of goo

won’t wait for any general!

Their feather soft tentacles

will soon strangle us to death!

Okay. Wait a moment.

Let me grab this thing

behind the oven I have hidden,

an orgasmatron ray.

Now we will prevail!

Reduce those amorphous attackers

to ecstatic lumps of nothing

and get back to our TV!

May. 18th, 2008 11:00 am A good morning

I read a wonderful book (the new Charlaine Harris From Dead to Worse). Had a fun phone conversation with my Aunt Jean (wherein she listened to me babble about my theories on time and space and magic - which is really nice of her considering I can get all uber math/science geek about it). Ate a snack of yummy, nutty  corn chips with the bite of pepper and jalapeno cheddar cheese, washed down with a deliciously crisp cold water. Then I took a blistering hot shower and after that changed into pajamas because I don't have to go anywhere today.  I LOVE Sundays.

I think I'll play Cosmic Bugs (from popcap games) now and then launch into my continued, absolutely glorious Stargate SG-1 marathon (why did I not watch this show sooner!!!)

Apr. 26th, 2008 10:00 pm Doctor Who!

Doctor Who is back and I'm loving it. How is this different from 20 years ago? It's not. Do I go around in circles or does tv? It reminds me a lot of those old eps and Donna rocks as a companion (just watched ep4 and she told the Unit guy to salute her and he did. hee!) ! At some point I need to catch up on the Doctors I missed - which is pretty much all of Six and Seven.

On a related note. If something is changed from its original broadcast  (by say Scifi network) don't they have to note that somewhere?

Apr. 12th, 2008 01:10 pm ooh! pretty!

I am on random catalog mailing lists - most of which I toss without even looking at them, but I glanced through the Pyramid Collection I got today and came across this:

http://www.pyramidcollection.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=P8474+M

Hopefully that leads to the Legacy Brocade Coat which I now covet and if it had been lined in silk I probably would have splurged even though I need to lose some weight before it looks okay on me (not to mention I don't need it and can't really afford to buy something I don't need).  There was another coat they had I liked (as well as most of the contents of the catalog) but I can't imagine wearing that one anywhere other than renfairs or conventions. It is pretty though (and also should be lined with silk and not polyester, dammit).

http://www.pyramidcollection.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=P8988+S

Oh, I liked this coat too (and I'm really not a coat person).

http://www.pyramidcollection.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=P8497+S

I'll stop now or I'll just keep linking to stuff.

Apr. 9th, 2008 08:33 pm I heart genre fiction!

So I tried to have a conversation with someone I had met recently about books (because books and reading just make me happy and I love to discuss them). Sadly the conversation quickly went nowhere as he wanted me to know he read only "serious literature". Why is it that the mention of genre fiction is so scary to some people - cause i was very vocal about my love of scifi fantasy  & mysteries & girly stuff.  He was willing to admit to having read Asimov (because, you know, Asimov's stories weren't necessarily about Robots and such - no, really?!). It sort became a pointless conversation. sigh. Where are the people to talk books to?
Almost forgot...he also would not believe that taking a poetry class could help with writing prose.

Jan. 24th, 2008 09:40 pm so much for that keep updating this blog in December

I couldn't resist this (it was on [info]scarletslippers lj). I get two different results depending on whether I think people will think i read only novels from looking at my bookshelves, or if they'd notice the weight of said bookshelves is sagging the floor. Dedicated reader sounds better (though I did wonder about that obsessive compulsive component...I'm mean really moi?)

Dec. 2nd, 2007 07:28 pm the 2 of 12

General spoiler alert here. I will be random and mention things I like about tv and movies. I need to figure out how to do the link thing but I've been too lazy to find out. I guess I can change text color for now and you can mouse over it if you don't mind being spoiled about things. (I know Cory that you don't like it!) Anyway I was watching "Stranger Than Fiction" last night which was way cute, but the thing that was the best was the box of flours (for a baker) That ROCKS!

Currently I'm talking on another blog, writing this, and cooking pizza at the same time. I am the queen of multitasking this evening!! I'm also waiting for the snow to start. I don't think it gets here until early am so thats good and maybe it won't be a big deal to get out to drive to work. Which reminds me I need to unearth my boots from the closet of doom! At least they are unpacked. I'd hate to have to look for them in my still unpacked boxes. I was looking for a book in those boxes and I couldn't find it. I know I have a copy of Dorothy L. Sayers "Gaudy NIght " but goodness only knows where it is. Maybe the unpacked boxes should be "of doom" and not the closet. After all stuff in the closet may actually be findable.

I also need to comment on the other nights Blood Ties episode which I totally loved. Though I think I will give it it's own entry and all as I am still trying to be blogful this month.

Cheerio! (must not burn pizza!)

Dec. 1st, 2007 02:00 pm 29 shopping days until my birthday!

So blogging is harder than I thought. No that I don't have things to say because , of course, I do, but I get LAZY! So I'm going to try to be better in December. Speaking of which it's December 1st and I indulged the kid in me and bought an advent calender. I love opening those little windows!! I thought about getting a chocolate one but as I have really good chocolate at work already I didn't want to have crappy chocolate at home everyday. I guess cute little pics will have to do me. It's suppose to snow too so maybe that will help me feel festive and Xmas-y. Plus I need to remember to ask Cory or Suse if they can comment because there seems to be a suspicious lack of comments from you guys. Of course I haven't said anything monumental. Monumental takes time and energy. I'm enjoying being lazy today. zzzzz
